Is this course for me?
This course is designed for those who are either just out of lessons, have been playing for 1-3 years (i.e. primarily “Bronze 1s”) or are looking for a refresher course after a break from playing bridge.
Each session will build on your existing knowledge of bridge, introduce more advanced ideas on bidding and card play and give you a solid base to which you can add more complex conventions at the next stage of your learning.
What can I expect from the course?
| Lessons 1-5 | Bidding Fundamentals – Limit bids by opener and responder, responders rebid, bidding balanced hands, trial bids, introduction to fourth suit forcing, Stayman and Transfers and how to handle interference over 1NT |
| Lessons 6-7 | Card Play Fundamentals – Finesse positions and how to play various suit combinations. Introduction to Safety Plays. These two lessons will give you a fresh insight into how to play the cards better. |

| Lessons 9-11 | Play of the Hand in No Trump contracts – counting winners and losers, planning the play, entries, hold up and safe-hand plays etc |
| Lessons 12-15 | Play of the Hand in Suit contracts – when and when not to draw trumps, setting up side suits, cross ruffing and more |
| Lesson 16 | Recap and revision of lessons from block 1 & 2 |
| AUDIO LESSONS | Audio lessons to support your learning will be available online and can be accessed at a time to suit you. |
When does the course run?
Classes are held in the club on a Tuesday evening from 7 pm to 9 pm.
- Block 1 starts on 28th October and ends on 16th December 2025
- Block 2 starts on 13th January and ends on 3rd March 2026
The cost for each block is £48 and includes all hand outs and online audio lessons. If you are aged 21 or under, in full time education or claiming job seekers allowance, lessons are free of charge
