Card Dealing – everything you need to know

Card dealing

Prepare the boards in advance of your allocated session.

Boards required

  • Monday: 3 sets of 28 boards
  • Tuesday: 2 sets of 28 boards
  • Wednesday: 1 set of 28 boards

Preparing the boards

  • While preparing the boards, check the condition of the cards and replace
any packs that are sticky, dog-eared or have seen better days. Spare packs
are available in the shelving unit.
  • Bin any packs that have been replaced.

Deal files and hand records

  • Create the deal file (PBN) using the day and date as the
filename, for example: Mon 01 Jun 2026.
  • Make sure the deal file has been analysed.
  • Save the deal file to:
    C:\BridgeData\Aberdeen Bridge Club\Dealfiles
  • Create the hand record file (PDF), using the day and date
    in the filename.
  • Save the hand record file to:
    C:\BridgeData\Aberdeen Bridge Club\Hand Records
  • Print no more than 10 hand records, place them in an A4
brown envelope, and put the envelope into the relevant box.

When you have finished

  • Update the Board Prep yellow/brown envelope master sheet with the date
the cards were prepared and your initials, then place it in the relevant box.
  • Update the website by adding “dealt” after your name.

Ad hoc tasks

  • Check the incomplete bidding boxes left on the bay-window tables each week
and replace any missing bid cards.
  • Bin bid cards that have seen better days.
  • If the card-dealing machine jams, either bin the pack of cards being used
or reuse it during that run.
  • If the card-dealing machine goes on strike, check that the camera lens is
clean and gently wipe it with a soft cloth if necessary.
