Online Club Tournaments on BBO

Dear Members,

Please find below an email from Anne Coles, SBU Tournament Director, with the latest information on SBU online Bridge.

At last week’s Bridge Club Board Meeting, the Directors agreed, in principle, to host an Aberdeen Bridge Club Weekly Tournament, if the SBU were successful in their negotiations with Bridge Base Online.  As you will see in Anne’s email, they have been, so we have let Anne know that we are interested. However, in order to go ahead, we need to know how many of our members would like to play in our own tournament. If you would like to play, please reply to this email as soon as possible.

Myself and the Board are very keen that we try to keep the feeling of ‘being part of something’, and that we keep friendship and partnerships going during the rest of the lockdown and the ensuing  continued social distancing measures. To this end, we are doing various things, including Newsletters, emails, and phone calls to members, but we feel that online Bridge, and in particular a weekly tournament with black points, would go some way towards keeping the club ‘alive’, until we can welcome you all back into the building.

Temporary Closure of the Bridge Club

Dear Members,

As you may know, the Government is encouraging those over 70 plus those
with a medical condition to self isolate. In addition, they are now suggesting that everyone avoids unnecessary journeys and social contact.

Yesterday, the SBU sent out emails to us all saying that all national
events were cancelled for the foreseeable future, and advising that all Bridge clubs should close.

After consulting with the committee, and given the low number of entries
for tonight’s tournament, I am writing to inform you that the club is
now closed until further notice. This has been a difficult decision to take, but it is the sensible one. We will keep you informed as to any further developments.

May I take this opportunity to say that I hope you will all escape this
dreadful virus, and that I hope to see you all again soon.

Kindest regards

Margaret

President’s message on Special Resolution result

Dear Member,

I am pleased to report that following a Special Resolution sent to
members by email and post, the membership have re-elected the current
Board of Trustees.  The required total was reached on 27th February
2020.

I would like to thank you for your patience and also for your support.
Please be assured that all decisions taken by the Board since the AGM
will be ratified at the next Board Meeting on Thursday 19th March,
including the new Bye-Laws which were provisionally agreed at our
January meeting.

Kindest regards,

Margaret Hodder, President
