Promoting friendly, competitive contract bridge for all ages
Dear Member,
Please find attached Membership Renewal form below. There will be printed forms in the Club if it makes it easier.
The EBL is delighted to announce that the Turkish Bridge Federation has agreed to host the European Open Bridge Championships in the Ephesus Convention Center in Kusadasi from 15th to 29th June 2019. http://www.ecc.com.tr/home/
The spacious venue is fully air-conditioned throughout and as Kusadasi is one of Turkey’s safe and secular tourist jewels like its close neighbour Bodrum, the event promises to be memorable.
Further details will be posted on the European Bridge League website (www.eurobridge.org ) in the coming weeks.

Dear
I am writing to introduce myself and to let you know that I have taken over from Loraine Findlay as Chair of the North District.
We are all looking forward to the new bridge season starting at the end of August. The new calendar is up on the North District website for you to view: http://www.sbunorth.co.uk/calendar.html
For now there are three things I would like to let you know about which are coming up soon.
Firstly:
If your Club enters or wishes to enter a Team of 8 in the Winter League, the Captain’s Meeting is being held at the Bridge Club Rubislaw Terrace on Friday 31 August at 19:00
If this is of interest and you would like further information please let me know – contact details below. It is an event for all bridge players new and old.
Secondly:
I would like to encourage your club to enter teams in the District Teams of 4. This event is normally played in 5 rounds on the first Friday of every month at Aberdeen Bridge Club starting 7pm (Please see calendar and note that there is a spare date in case of adverse weather.)
If you haven’t played in this event before please give it a go – get in touch with me for more details. Again please note that this competition is for beginners and upwards and provides a great opportunity to play ‘Teams Bridge’ which many think is the better and more exciting game.
Thirdly:
We are acutely aware as a Committee that some of the rural bridge clubs are struggling for numbers. We are looking into placing adverts, most likely in the Press and Journal, to encourage former players and those wishing to learn to join a local club. It may help and we can only try and see. We will keep you informed on this.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me for any reason – if you think there is a chance I can help just ask.
Best wishes
Anne Coles

Please find a new edition of our newsletter. Thanks to our Secretary Fumi for an outstanding job again!
The annual memorial to Jamie will take place on Sunday 17th of June at 1.30pm at The Bridge Club, Aberdeen. Jamie’s mother Beth wishes our dear bridge friends who have passed away this year, to be included in our thoughts. This year’s competition will also honour the memory of Myra Kinmond, Eileen Martin, Jim Smith, Jenny Steel, Charlotte Fraser, Audrey Pennie, Allan Yule , Bill Innes and others who have sadly passed away this season.
The tournament will be a Perfect Swiss Teams event where entrants will be captained by an expert and will play with three other team members. We are very keen for our novices to take part also. Please enter as an individual and we will team you up. North District is very grateful to Jamie’s family who continue to support us with prizes . The money raised will go to support our juniors and a charity of the winning team’s
choice.
Please contact Anne Coles at colxmet@gmail.com if you wish to enter or add your name to the list at the Bridge Club. Entry will cost £5.00.
Donations towards a raffle and small donations of snacks would also be most appreciated.
