At the 3rd Commonwealth Games Bridge event held in Ghaziabad, India, the Scottish team consisting of 6 players, 5 from the Central Belt and Sandy Duncan from Stonehaven, won the Gold Medal in a dramatic late finish.
The Scottish Team comprised three partnerships:
John Murdoch & Brian Spears
Derek Diamond & Derek Sanders
Sandy Duncan & Irving Gordon
There were 24 Teams entered from across the Commonwealth and Scotland needed a convincing victory over Wales in their final Qualifying match to reach the Semi-Finals where they were due to meet a very strong Australian Team. |

| The Australians surged ahead to lead 29 – 9 at the halfway stage. Sandy Duncan & his partner joined the fray in the second half of the Semi Final and were part of a spectacular turnaround when the Scots went on to win by 59 – 44. |

| An amazing comeback which won the Scots the Gold Medal, as India were defeated by a Non-National Team in the other Semi who were not eligible for a medal. The Australians defeated India in the decider for the Sliver & Bronze Medals. |
